19 of Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hardcourt

A comeback the Russian player claimed his first championship for over two years with a win over Corentin Moutet in the competition championship match.

The Russian, a ex- number one, has experienced a difficult period, winning just one win at the Grand Slams and undergoing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serving in particular - led to him falling of the top ten and ultimately splitting with long-term trainer Gilles Cervara.

Presently training with Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has gradually improved in the recent weeks - culminating in a tightly fought three-set win over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's initial title since the Rome competition and first on a hardcourt since March of 2023.

Victory also means the Russian has secured twenty-one victories at 21 various competitions.

"It's the first time I'm at a tournament with my children at once, so to secure a title is especially meaningful," said ranked player the champion.

"This victory is in honour of my second daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I won when my first daughter her name was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had failed in his past six championship matches, featuring in the German tournament previously this season.

Medvedev's defensive strategy and recurring reactions on the tennis court had caused some to wonder if his ability to perform at the top level was finished.

Yet the athlete has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, attempting to advance forward and play positively, backed up by an enhanced serving game.

The champion came back from a deficit in the initial set against the difficult Moutet, securing four of the final five points to take the lead.

The pair exchanged breaks in the second set before the challenger, bidding for his maiden ATP Tour victory, seized the initiative to create a third set.

He rescued four initial break points in a close third set before the champion won the break to fifteen to close out the victory.

Suitably, the winner secured the title with a rally at the front of the court, with Moutet failing to control a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
